  • Criminal Appearance Court and Rescheduling Criminal Matters - Province-wide

    The Court of Queen’s Bench will resume Criminal Appearance Court (“CAC”) province wide commencing June 5, 2020 via Webex with regular CAC dates listed in the Court Calendar and those added in the Master Orders. Booking priority will be given on CAC lists in June to September 4, 2020 to in-custody matters, trials that were Jordan-threatened prior to the pandemic and trial adjournments from March 16 to June 26, 2020.

  • Non-Binding Judicial Dispute Resolutions (JDRs) / Family Early Intervention Case Conferences (EICCs)

    Over June, July and August the Court will hear non-binding JDRs and Family EICCs. For JDRs, all parties must be represented by Counsel and all Counsel must agree to proceed with the JDR remotely via Webex video and audio. For Family EICCs, all parties must agree to proceed with the EICC remotely via Webex video and audio. Priority will be given to JDRs and Family EICCs that were scheduled for a hearing between March 16 and June 26 and cancelled pursuant to the Court's Master Orders during the pandemi

  • Criminal Voir Dires in Writing

    Effective immediately, where the accused is represented by Counsel and where Crown and Defence Counsel consent to waive the conduct of an oral hearing and cross-examination on affidavit evidence, voir dires or other pre-trial applications involving Criminal Code offences (excepting cases involving ss. 276/278 of the Criminal Code which contain specific hearing requirements) may be submitted to the Court with affidavit evidence and written argument (along with an electronic copy of video tape in the case of a s. 715.1 voir dire) to be considered by way of desk application.

  • Remote Regular Chambers/Duty - Province-Wide

    Effective June 3 2020, the Court will commence hearing regular Justice, Family and Masters Chambers applications (with an anticipated length of 20 minutes or less) remotely via Webex video and audio.

    Effective immediately, in cases where each party is represented by Counsel, with notice applications that would otherwise be heard in Justice Chambers (including Special Chambers) may be submitted to the Court by desk application with written argument.

    Effective immediately, where the accused is represented by Counsel and where Crown and Defence Counsel agree, Summary Conviction Appeals involving Criminal Code offences may be submitted to the Court with written argument to be considered by way of desk application.

  • Criminal Trial Triage Booking - June, July, August 2020

    Commencing June, July and August, 2020, the Court will be hearing some short, judge-alone Criminal trials in-person in COVID-safe courtrooms. The Court will also be hearing some short, judge-alone Criminal trials via Webex video, where the accused is represented by Counsel and both Crown and Defence Counsel agree to proceed in this manner.

  • Desk Applications - Filing Signed Orders

    May 22, 2020
    Effective immediately, all desk applications that are signed by a Justice or a Master will first be filed by the Court and the Applicant will be required to pay any outstanding fees pertaining to the processing of the Order, prior to the Order being returned to the Applicant for service upon the Respondent(s).
