COVID-19 Update: Bookings for Reviews and Assessments

Jun 15, 2020

Edmonton Review Office

The Edmonton Review Office is now booking appointments for review and assessment hearings by telephone. Where possible, priority for telephone hearings will be given to reviews and assessments that were adjourned pursuant to the Court’s COVID-19 Master Orders. Requests for available dates and times should be emailed to Review Office. Once an appointment is booked, the Review Office will confirm the appointment and provide instructions on how a telephone connection will be established for the hearing. The Form 42 (Appointment for Review) or Form 45 (Appointment for Assessment) that an Applicant must file and serve should contain the following in lieu of the Review Office or courthouse address that would normally go in the “Where” field in the form:

“By telephone. Please email the Edmonton Review Office at ReviewOffice.Edmonton@albertacourts.ca to obtain instructions on how to participate. This should be done at least 3 business days in advance of the hearing date.”

The documents for a review may be filed at the courthouse in any Judicial Centre.  The documents for an assessment must be filed at the courthouse in the Judicial Centre in which the action giving rise to the costs is or was being prosecuted. However, in either case the review or assessment should be booked directly with the Edmonton Review Office.

Before filing any documents, the Applicant should read the notice regarding amendments to the Rules of Court that is posted here. The amendments include amendments to the required forms, as well as a new procedure for filing confidential information for a review.

Calgary Review Office

The arrangements for booking Calgary reviews and assessments are the same as those for Edmonton except:

  • Requests for available dates and times should be emailed to the Calgary Review Office.
  • The “Where” field in a Form 42 or Form 45 should read:

“By telephone. Please email the Calgary Review Office at ReviewOffice.QBCalgary@albertacourts.ca  to obtain instructions on how to participate. This should be done at least 3 business days in advance of the hearing date.”

  • Since the Calgary Office only conducts reviews and assessments for the Judicial Centre of Calgary, unless special arrangements are made by or with the Review Office, in advance, the documents for them must be filed at the Calgary Courts Centre. Where special arrangements are made, the Applicant will be advised of proper location for filing.
